Breast Treatments and ProductsBreast Treatments and Products.
As mentioned in the article about anatomy & physiology of the breast, the breast tissue particularly over the areola and the nipple, is thinner and more translucent than elsewhere on the body because the lower layers contain less collagen.
Collagen loss is the predominant skin condition found on the neck, dcollet and breast areas. Diagnosing this is easy, it is a vertical striation that is seen by having a light source opposite and looking across the skin. It can not be easily seen through a magi light or by looking down onto the skin. to confirm your diagnosis take a small pinch of skin tissue, hold for a second then let go. If the tissue stay peaked, you know you have collagen loss.
Another skin condition often seen in this area is pigmentation and spider Nevis, both will have been compounded by sun exposure but the causes are often fragrance and hormonal. Many perfumes have photo-sensitisers in the form of fragrance fixatives and pregnancy and menopause are two stages in a womans life where spider nevis are a result of a hormonal imbalance.
The breast, dcollet and neck area can very easily become sunburned because the chest skin contains few melanocytes. With this in mind, the client should be warned that any form of UV radiation will prematurely age her skin, accelerating the collagen loss, pigmentation and spider nevis. If however the client is insistent that she wants a tan, suggest, in early summer until the tan is established a sun block with a SPF of 15 or greater should be applied.
Can a beauty regime help the breast?
All kinds of beauty products and treatments are available for breast, neck and dcollet care. Massage, electrotherapy, short, sharp bursts of ice-cold water and topical application of specially formulated products all play their part in helping keep breasts firm, toned, lifted and looking youthful. No matter how religiously carried out for whatever period, all results will be short lived and that also applies to plastic surgery. We know that if the established causes of a skin condition have not been recognized and addressed, the treatment will be ineffective. This however applies to everything in beauty therapy the breasts are no exception.
Many causes of breast conditions are intrinsic, that inherited predisposition towards the size, shape and appearance. Sun-damage, ill-fitting bras or no breast support, posture, and weight fluctuations, illness, diet and some medications all contribute to breast deterioration. Then pregnancy, lactation, menopause and hormones will also compound the breast condition.
This delicate skin need must be treated gently and should never be subjected to scrubbing or rough toweling as this can make the nipples sore and tender, particularly in the week before menstruation. The nipples and areola may also become dry and flake before menstruation, so it is a good idea to take extra care. Many salon treatments are contraindicated pre menstruation and during. It is important during your client consultation to know what your clients cycle is.
In Europe women have a greater awareness of their bodies and body treatments and have included bust treatments into their monthly salon program for years, American women usually go for surgical cosmetic enhancement of the breast. In Oceana and Asian countries, women have been a little shy about approaching their therapist about bust care and salon treatments for the breast/dcollet areas, although surgical enhancement is fast growing.
Introducing bust treatments to your clients begins with home care, these products raising the awareness of the client to her neck and dcollet/bust areas. These are the key words, "neck & dcollet/bust" and that is where you start, Neck and Dcollet, the Bust will naturally follow.
So often, we happily do our facials blissfully unaware and unthinking of the clients quiet and shy concerns about her neck and breast tissue. On the other hand, is it because of our own shyness, we neglect to raise the client awareness of her neck/dcollet tissue let alone the breast tissue?
Electrologists spend many hours removing superfluous hair from the breast area and they too neglect to talk about care of the dcollet and breast tissue.
What ever the reason is for this neglect, therapists are failing in their professional duty by not suggesting clinic treatments or home-care products for this delicate area.
For a product to be effective its composition must be compatible to the structure & function of the area its to be applied. What would you look for in a bust product?
Collagen synthesis
Cellular repair,
Cellular stimulation
Antioxidant
Skin barrier repair function:
Softening
Soothing
Toning
Tyrosinase inhibitor
